Sâr Péladan, Lucifer, Art & Angels with Sasha Chaitow at Treadwell’s on September 6 at 7:30p.
Lecture – Dr Sasha Chaitow
Joséphin Péladan (Sâr Merodack, 1858-1918) was a key figure in fin-de- siècle French Symbolism and in the French occult revival. We learn tonight how he believed in Lucifer as redemptor of humanity, shown in Istar (1888) a novel about Bené Satan, Lucifer and their children. The work unfolds Péladan’s ideas of spiritual love, fallen angels and redemptive art. He believed God wants fallen angels to teach mankind to create art, so both might be saved.
Dr Chaitow (PhD Essex) is the world expert on Péladan’s occulstism and is herself both a scholar and artist.
